I'm work on colony breeding Eclectus I have had a small colony of 4 pair and two spare cock which work very well. So I have decided to Build a large but modest size aviary for a new colony. This new aviary will be 12 meters long by 4 meters wide (may be up to 6 mt) and 3 to 3.5 meters high. In this aviary I hope to set up six female and eight male Eclectus. I hope to be able to study the ways that Eclectus's react with each other.

A bit about eclectus , Eclectus hen in the wild, can and are cared for by many males all collecting food for hen and as payment for this dedication is that some males may father offspring , but most of spring are sired by the dominant male (Alfa male). so far this has proven the same in our colony. Rosemary Low now considers that matting eclectus up as single pair is not the way to go, and that a lot of the infertility with Eclectus stems from female not thinking that her mate is a Alfa type male, I have been stating this for almost twenty years. I have a freind how breed his eclectus in fives that is in a very large surpended aviary 6' X 6' X 22' (1.8m X 1.8m X 6m) surpended 4' to 5'off the ground, he house 3 males and 2 females, went housed like this he finds the Eclectus to be 99% fertile.

Here are some photo of our Ecky's
